Makapuno Field Planting in Region 8
1999
Coconut researchers have developed technologies of growing makapuno trees that produce 70% to 95% makapuno nuts per tree. The project aimed to determine the performance of embryo-cultured makapuno in Region 8 and to sustain the development of the technology toward commercialization.
Establishment of Nata de Coco Model Plant in Region 8
1999
A state-of-the-art facility was constructed for the production of 90MT/mo of nata de coco. This would provide a training ground for interested researchers, farmers, and entrepreneurs in the region.
PCRDF Oleochemical Laboratory
1992
There is now a growing demand for more biodegradable products worldwide. The oleochemical industry is slowly inching its way into the world of pertroleum-based industries. For third-world countries like the Philippines, which is rich in renewable vegetable resources like coconut oil, the oleochemical industry is a worthwhile venture. During the last few years, oleochemical plants have been established and upgraded in the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and recently in European countries and the US as well.
