Establishment of Nata De Coco Training Center & Model Plant in Region 8 (Tacloban, Leyte)


The Nata de Coco Model Plant in Tacloban was established to promote the production of nata de coco and to sustain its development in Region 8. It also aims to provide training on manufacturing practices and quality control to all interested entrepreneurs of nata de coco.

CSSAC-PCRDF-COCOFED Technology Sharing Program


This collaboration aims to increase the production of embryo cultured seedlings and expand production areas of makapuno and other desirable coconut varieties for food and non-food product development through technology transfer (i.e., embryo culture technique, etc.). CCSAC, PCRDF and COCOFED agreed to work together for the advocacy and promotion of the Philippine coconut industry.

Establishment of Satellite Tissue/Embryo Culture Laboratories in Tacloban, Leyte


The objective of this project is to increase the income of coconut farmers in Region 8 through the planting of makapuno, a high-value coconut variety, and intercropping lakatan, pineapple, and other high-value crops. In-vitro embryo culture and tissue culture techniques are used for the mass propagation of makapuno and lakatan seedlings. PCRDF staff trained the laboratory personnel on the in-vitro culture techniques. The project also includes field planting and demo farm establishment as well as distribution of in-vitro grown makapuno, lakatan and pineapple planting materials.
