Processing-utilization of "Sapal" (pressed coconut meat)

The study was conducted to find ways of extracting the remaining coconut oil in the sapal, and find new uses for it. A new method of extracting oil from sapal consists of leaching the sapal by chemical reaction of oil with chemically-equivalent amount of sodium hydroxide and concentrating the solution until it solidifies.

Establishment of Processing, Packaging and Marketing Parameters of Food Grade Copra
January 8, 1983

The new technology for processing edible copra established consisted of the following procedures: (1) the shelled or unshelled coconuts were split into halves and then washed, (2) washed nuts were drained and then dipped in 2% sodium metabisulfate solution for 30 minutes, (3) treated coconuts were dried using the UPLB Copra and Jubilee driers. The processing parameters of food-grade copra was established using different microbial inhibitors such as sodium propionate, sodium hypochlorite, sorbic acid, and sodium metabisulfate.

The Utilization of Water-Extracted Coconut Milk in the Development of Low-fat Filled Milk: Phase II

Water-extracted coconut milk could be a low-cost substitute for cow’s milk; a substitute for butterfat; is an effective carrier of vegetable fat; and blends easily with reconstituted skim milk. New dairy food products can be developed.

Technology Packaging for Countryside Development
January 1, 1985

The provinces targeted as beneficiaries included Bohol, Zamboanga del Sur, Quezon, and Surigao del Sur. In September 1986, the Primer on Coconut-Based Multiple Cropping Systems for Central Visayas (Bohol) was launched and distributed. Also, a technoguide specific for Quezon province was published in 1989.

Rehabilitation of Fibercraft Machines for Coir Rope and Twine Production
January 4, 1985

Three (3) fibercraft machines for unraveling, sliver-making, and twine-making in Alaminos, Laguna became operational after being improvised and compensated for missing minor parts.
