Diseases of Coconut Hybrids with Special Reference to Hybrids Developed at UPLB
January 3, 1979
The death of the hybrid is often due to beetle infestation rather than disease. The diseases of coconut hybrids from nursery to bearing stage were monitored in the study. Resistance and susceptibility of these hybrids to some coconut pathogens were determined.
Drying of Coconut Intercrops using the UPLB Copra Dryer and Drying of Edible Coco Chips Using the UPLB Copra Dryer and Kukum Dryer
January 2, 1979
Drying time for coconut meat can be reduced from several hours to just 45 minutes if the meat is sliced into small pieces before drying. The Lozada copra dryer and the Kukum dryer, two dryers that can produce clean and low-moisture content copra, can be modified into dry coconut chips or sliced meat. Preliminary tests on the use of Lozada copra dryer indicate that it is suitable for drying crops such as corn, peanut, cassava, and coffee.
Coconut Oil Expeller
January 3, 1979
Initial trials on a small capacity, locally-made oil expeller showed an oil recovery of 56% and a production rate of 34 kg/hr when copra passed through the expeller consuming 74 watt/hour per kg oil, second passing resulted in an increased oil recovery but less production with increased energy consumption. A second phase of this study was made in 1983. Compared to the previous study, oil production increased while power consumption decreased when screw speed in the oil expeller was increased by 112%.
Laboratory Studies on the Conversion of Coconut Oil into Industrial Solvents
January 3, 1979
Hexane, heptane, and octane are produced in the distillate product coming from catalytic conversion of fatty acids of coconut oil. Coconut oil and its fatty acids were subjected to direct or catalytic pyrolysis using various catalysts and different reaction conditions.
Stability studies on Coconut Milk and Plant Protein Isolates-Based Products
January 5, 1979
The study involves the reconstitution of beverage-type evaporated and sweetened condensed types of products made from coconut milk plus mango protein isolate and coconut milk plus non-fat dairy milk (NFDM).
