August 1, 1978

Direct interesterification of coconut oil with methyl glucoside using sodium metal catalyst yielded 85% desired product, using potassium soap (15%) and sodium metal (0.5%) catalyst for sorbitol esters yielded 80.6% desired product. Long-chain quaternary ammonium salts were prepared from coconut oil following two methods.
